Nice flat water in the channel!
It’s a tight spot but offers some great flat water in the right conditions.
You need to be able to kite upwind confidently to get to the bay and it’s easy to end up in the Porirua harbour if you get caught out. Be careful can be shallow in some places.
Launching your kite can be tricky and the space is little. So please help each other and ask locals for the best way to do this.

It’s one of the few spots in Wellington where you really need to pay attention to the tides:

  • There’s not a lot of room at low tide.
  • The current is VERY strong so on the incoming tide you will loose anywhere between 5-8 knots making it very difficult to get out of the channel.
  • On the outgoing tide however, the tide will help you to stay close to your board
